record: Rei was born into a decent family, a group of people with good living wages and a nicely upper-middle-class lifestyle. In fact, one might even say he had it good for where he grew up. With parents in manager positions at large firms and an older brother who was a successful financial consultant, he hardly had to want for anything.
Armed with a quality (as much as one can get quality on this level of Auslosen, that is) education, Rei found himself at a bit of a stand-still. He had all the analytical skills his parents possessed, but the idea of becoming a plain salaryman didn’t sit well with him. He wanted something more abstract, something… beautiful.
He turned to modeling, at first. It seemed natural – he wanted to be as beautiful as any one person could be, so by wearing beautiful clothing, he thought he could achieve that. It ended almost just as quickly.
Designers, after all, were a curious bunch with curious ideas. Not a single design he wore struck him as worthy of being on the runway. In fact, he wagered he could make better designs himself. It was with that in mind that he left modeling and turned to sewing – though he didn’t have any experience working with the machines, it didn’t take him long to master them. If there was anything Rei was, it was resourceful and a quick learner.
His reputation grew in part because he was almost forceful in his eccentricity. Rei, the butterfly designer. His affinity for the elusive insects was strangely strong, considering he had never seen one in person. He didn’t care about that fact at all. As he rose in the eyes of the design world, he learned more about the models who would be wearing his works.
Haruka Nanase was a name that flew around a lot. He was the ‘ideal’ model, in a lot of people’s eyes. When Rei saw him, he somehow felt like he understood why, despite his often undesirable personality. It became Rei’s ideal outcome to design for Haruka himself.
That, at least up to now, was a faraway dream. Rei found that Haruka was in a whole other league, with a team of people that seemed hellbent on keeping lower-born designers away from him. Without the necessary backing and clout, he couldn’t manage to so much as find a moment to speak with Haruka.
With that dream on the back burner, he turned to others. Rin Matsuoka became the next subject of Rei’s near-obsessive personality – the man couldn’t be more different from Haru, but that was in its own way almost intoxicating. At first, Rei wasn’t sure Rin would accept his designing either, but he was persistent enough to get him to agree.
Once the redhead left modeling, though, it was some time before Rei found him again – at a strip club, of all places. A strip club with completely unflattering clothing, of course. Rei himself had hit something of a rut in his designing – though his items were still being sold, he was running out of ground to keep moving forward. So, he made an appointment with Rin’s employers, and contracted himself to making the occasional costume for the club. He had the time, and they seemed to appreciate his eccentricities more than the bigwigs in modeling, so it seemed like a win-win situation. He would still say that’s true now, as he works on those commissions, as well as his own designer clothing, between modeling agency design gigs.
